The weather in Fuerteventura

The weather in Fuerteventura. The climate in Fuerteventura is very pleasant throughout the year. The Canaries are also known as “The fortunate islands” and, according to several studies, have one of the best climates in the world.

The island of Fuerteventura is influenced by a branch of the Gulf Stream, “cold sea currents of the Canary Islands”, and the warm currents of Africa.

Our daytime temperature is usually around 20-25 degrees all year round, we also have an average of 330 days of sunshine per year. The temperature of the sea oscillates between 18 and 23 degrees, reaching 25 degrees in September-October.

In Fuerteventura it is often windy. The prevailing winds are “The Alisios” NE, which blow more in summer months. The less windy months are from September to November and from March to May.

From time to time, very hot winds blow from the Sahara Desert towards the Canary Islands. This East component wind, usually brings dust in suspension (known as Calima).

For this reason and more, Fuerteventura is a paradise for the navigator. Whilst it is usually windy, it’s also true that there is always a way to make the most of it. If it comes from the East, we sail to the West. Coming from the West, we will sail towards the East. When it comes from the North, it is perfect near the South coast.

If on the other hand your interest is in sailing, then you will find few places where you can enjoy it more than here!

As far as one or the other is concerned, every sailor should watch the forecast of “the weather” before taking to the sea.
